Fintech companies partner with Upward to provide a Credit Builder that turns your spending into credit-building activity. Similar to a store card, Upward's Credit Builder provides a credit limit you can use with a specific merchant. Each time you use it, the activity is reported to Experian and Equifax. To get the most out of it, plan to use it every month to demonstrate ongoing utilization and excellent repayment history.
There are no additional fees or interest charges from Upward; however, you may be charged by the merchant offering the Upward Credit Builder.
A soft inquiry is used to pre-approve your Upward Credit Builder. Once approved, you will see a newly opened tradeline from Upward Financial.
You must be at least 18 years old with a physical U.S. residence; a valid email address and phone number; a valid Social Security number or ITIN (ITIN applicants must provide a Permanent Labor Certification with USCIS application or authorization, Employment Authorization Document, U.S. work or student visa, or I-765 form); and a valid government-issued ID.
Every time you transfer funds or make a payment on your Upward Credit Builder, that payment is reported and helps build your credit.
Common reasons include: we were unable to verify your identity; the application was never completed; you already have an account with the same merchant; or your credit information did not meet our underwriting criteria. To re-apply, contact us.
Your merchant collects payment from you and reports to us when you have repaid your balance. If you see an outstanding balance on your credit report, please notify the merchant directly.
You can access your credit insights through the Profile tab in the merchant's app.
